Nature, Doubling by reflection
Rust, but the good kind
Corten steel

Francesco Venezia, a prominent figure in the Italian architectural scene, presents some of his projects at the MAXXI in an artistic light, highlighting the connection between nature and artifice. The architect once again turns to us for assistance in the fabrication and installation of complex metal works with oxidized finishes. Our collaboration had already played a key role in bringing one of the most significant and prestigious projects for both to life: the Etruscan exhibition at Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
First, we prepared several samples, showcasing various shades of oxidized, intentionally rusted iron. The main skill was in accelerating the oxidation process and halting it at the desired effect, allowing the architect to select the optimal chromatic tone. Additionally, the value of the operation was in meticulously studying the artifact in 3D, particularly the scaled “model” of the project, which was itself the centerpiece of the exhibition at MAXXI.
A “100% metallic” model was expertly welded and assembled, and, together with the water-filled basin and other elements, it constituted the artwork. The added value we provided led us to develop the best strategy for transporting and assembling the installation directly on-site.
