Turning stainless steel into a showpiece

Client: Camata costruzioni s.r.l.
Scenery: Teatro Toniolo, Mestre
Matter:

Burnished Sandblasted Stainless Steel

Context

Making a type of fixture suitable for a full restoration. The Toniolo Theatre in Mestre was completely restored through a well-coordinated and high-level intervention, revitalizing a central hub of the city’s artistic and popular culture. Our role was to find solutions that would intelligently and tastefully enhance a historic building, ensuring it can perform its function optimally for many years to come.

Solution

In addition to the numerous metalwork pieces delivered for the interior of the theater, such as the railings, our most notable contribution was the construction, finishing, and installation of a series of fixtures that define the entrances and windows of the building. Thanks to the vision of Architect Giovanni Leone, it was decided to create the fixtures in stainless steel with a unique finish. After being sandblasted, they became the centerpiece of our signature process, the bronze effect burnishing. This technique, while leaving the natural material intact, transforms the cold, silver tone of stainless steel into a warm surface rich with shades ranging from sandy tones to deep browns.
The additional challenge consisted in installing the glass panes without scaffolding. We worked safely using our lifting equipment, including a crane truck and a special adjustable suction cup.
