Beyond Architectural Barriers

Technology, design and functionality

Client: Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the Province of Padua, Italy
Scenery: Villa Badoer, Fratta Polesine, Italy
Matter:

Corten Steel

Context

To install a staircase and an elevator in an irregularly shaped space to allow access to the first floor of the National Archaeological Museum of Fratta Polesine, located right next to the walls of one of the most prestigious Venetian Villas, while fully complying with the directives of the Superintendency of Fine Arts.

Solution

We had the honor of contributing to the modernization of an Archaeological Museum that houses artifacts from the Bronze Age, discovered along the Po River. The museum is situated adjacent to the walls of a villa conceived and designed by Andrea Palladio.

This project was as ambitious as it was rewarding: the technical drawings, developed from scratch by our in-house design team, allowed the craftsmen to create an elliptical steel structure with a conical vertical development and a helical aesthetic character. Corten steel was chosen as the ideal material for such a precious and delicate context, evoking a sense of antiquity through its coloration.

The lighting and, most importantly, the supporting structure of the upper canopy ultimately completed a highly complex project with one of the noblest purposes: providing everyone with free access to knowledge and culture in a place of invaluable historical, archaeological, and architectural significance.
